I presume that like most other painting forums, this one will welcome members paintings so that other members can make coments/criticsms. So here goes.

This one is a painting in acrylics based on a Courbet in the National Gallery. It is not my usual style, but I thought that I'd have a go at copying a master painting and this is one of my wifes favourites. I did a sketch of it at the gallery and bought a postcard of it. I also downloaded a copy from the National Gallery website as a reference. I found it very good practise at glazing with acrylics , something which I had found difficult before.
There are no instructions for uploading photos so I have done a link to my site on photobucket.
Well done Bernard!
I had to laugh when I saw your post: I am planning to add a feature for a members' gallery - you've beaten me to it. Not only that but I hadn't thought of the criticism angle - I think that's a great idea. Of course the real thing will have an upload facility.
As for the painting, I like it. Being the society's least competent painter and not knowing the original I do wonder if the reflection on the red apple right in the middle is too much - I mean the real reflection not the painting of a reflection! I have also tried glazing in acrylics and there seems much to learn without much help from books. The ratio of paint to medium to water, the number of layers and the colours are all variables to play with and I suspect it will take a lot of experience to make it predictable.
Thank you for your fantastic contribution.

Thank you
I think the reflection on the apple is partly from my camera flash. In fact the colour is not that good compared with the original.
I do not use any mediums with acrylics. Just straight paint. Painted fairly dry, good quality brushes help. I use DaVinci TopAcryl flats. Limited palette, two of each primary plus white and patience. Thats the hardest bit for me. I used to like to paint fast but have learnt to slow down. I always wondered why it tok the masters so long to paint .Now I know why. It's waiting for each layer to dry. With acrylics its much faster but youstill have to be patient.

Still impatient
I like using a hair dryer to speed the drying even more. There don't seem to be any disadvantages to this. Glazing medium makes the paint more translucent - I didnt realise you could glaze acrylics without it, the colours are so dense.
